Healthy Lifestyles | Las Vegas Boudoir
While on vacation in Hawaii recently I discovered that running can be lots of fun! The scenery there was so breathtaking which helped to take my mind off the challenge of pushing forward and it just felt good to start my day that way. I found I had more energy to sustain me through the rest of the day. So, upon my arrival home to Vegas I decided to give it a shot here too. We have gorgeous trails around my neighborhood and while we typically go walking and biking, I never do these things on my own and definitely never used the trails for jogging. Well, I am really, really enjoying it so far! I typically head out there on Tuesdays and Thursdays very, very early and am using an iphone app called Couch To 5k that has been very helpful in keeping me motivated. The other mornings of the week I have been walking the trails with a friend…soo much fun! I have a Pedometer iPhone app I try to remember to use for that too and can’t believe how many calories it says we are burning from just walking! Can’t wait to eventually get new running shoes and cute tops and shorts to go with my new hobby!
When I become interested in something, I go in head first and become pretty much consumed with passion for it. My work is one such thing (I love it so much I live and breathe it), my family and friends obviously, now walking/jogging and even tea! I just made the switch succesfully from coffee to tea and am absolutely loving it! I fell in love with the store Teavana. The staff will give you quite an education on tea if you ask, and also are very helpful in selecting just the right tea for you.
I definitely think reading Eat, Pray, Love gave me a bit more bravery to make more of an effort to set aside time just for me that’s healthy, yet fun. Soo excited for the movie to open this weekend! Do any of you have plans to go see it?
What are some of the things you are doing just to celebrate you and make you a better, healthier person?

Making Some Needed Changes | Las Vegas Boudoir
My Saturdays are usually reserved for cleaning, running errands & hopefully a little fun but yesterday I decided I needed to do a little blog housekeeping too! For too log it had been bothering me…feeling a tad too cluttered with the sidebar and the tiny text. Well, I finally bit the bullet and did away with the sidebar and changed the font for all text so it’s a little easier on the eyes now. The designer in me is now a much happier girl. I hope you all like this change as much as I do!
Because of the sidebar removal, you will now only be able to access the pages and links that were listed there by clicking the PAGES dropdown menu at the top of the blog (as seen in the screenshot below - click twice for larger view). I created a page full of the links for Lingerie Resources, Recommended Stylists and Bridal Resources called Link Love.I will be adding to the link page a lot!
Hope you enjoy the little face-lift! Happy blogging!

Back from Vacation and Ready to Rock More Shoots | Vegas Boudoir
Wow, what an amazing vacation in Kauai! If you are looking for an incredibly beautiful destination ripe with adventures, Kauai is the place to go! Some of the highlights:
Seeing the Napali Coastline via the Holo Holo Charters catamaran.
This was by far the greatest adventure of our trip to Kauai!
We decided to do the Sunset Cruise to see the beautiful Napali Coastline and were not disappointed with it’s beauty….totally awe-inspiring.
I actually had envisioned that this would be a mellow boat ride, and even contemplated wearing a dress. I am so glad I decided to go more casual, because the ride was actually pretty rough and everyone was blasted with the sea salt spray….especially those who opted to sit outside.
This was one heck of an amazing experience. The crew was really friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, the food was good, the drinks were plentiful, the view spectacular and the ride that terrified me at first ended up being a LOT of fun!
Thanks Holo Holo guys for such an amazing time!

The Beautiful McBride Botanical Gardens:
This (McBryde Garden) was not what I expected at all! But, I am happy to say, that I very much enjoyed it anyway.
I had imagined we would be in a smallish garden of well-organized flowers and trees, like other botanical gardens I have been to. But my first inkling that this was going to be different was when we had to board a tram to get to it. But then I had a slight panic attack when we rounded a corner on the tram and I noticed we were on a very narrow trail with a cliff on one side of us…only to be quickly followed by a cliff on both sides! Gasp! I just tried to focus on the beauty surrounding me and it worked thankfully.
Once we were dropped off we quickly tried to make our way around the massive garden, which felt more like a forest to me. My favorite part was on the way back in the tram when our guide pointed out where they filmed a scene for Pirates of the Caribbean 4 just two weeks prior. Dang it, I missed seeing Johnny Depp?!
•  •  •  •  •  •  •
Of course the beaches were incredible and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time there reading and taking in the beauty surrounding me. I brought a few business related books but couldn’t put ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ down long enough to entertain the others. Oh my goodness, have you read Eat, Pray, Love? It’s such a fantastic read for any woman. If you haven’t read it yet, hurry and pick up a copy before the movie comes out on August 13th!
Another favorite activity was running along the trails next to the beach in the mornings with Joe’s daughter Brittany. Hoping to make that a habit on the pretty trails near where I live.
And, if you go to Kauai be sure to visit one of the Farmer’s Markets! We found lots of locally grown goodies there.
As for restaurants, my favorite was Josselin’s Tapas Bar & Grill and also Roy’s. The markets have some pretty incredible Poké too! Yumm!
Are you taking a vaction this summer or have you already had a get-away? If so, where are you going?
Here are some random pics from the trip (click thumbnails twice for full sized images):
And, now that I am rested and recharged, I am ready to start rocking out those boudoir shoots and orders again! If you are thinking of doing a boudoir session as a holiday gift in December, please consider booking your shoot early. August would be a great month to beat the holiday rush!

Comment Complications | Las Vegas Boudoir
I love getting comments on my blog, just as anyone who has a blog does. But, I got so busy with other Haute Shots oriented things, that I didn’t realize I hadn’t been getting many comments here at all (for a few months actually). I figured maybe everyone was just favoring commenting on the Haute Shots Facebook Page or something. Well, I was shocked to find out recently that my posts weren’t getting comments here because something was wrong with my blog…oops!
So, please accept my apology to any of you who left a comment that didn’t get posted. Your thoughts are incredibly valuable to me and I would never intentionally not put your comment through. Joe fixed the problem though, so it should be smooth sailing from here on out. Feel free to comment away!
Oh, and if you notice that your comments are not posting in the future, please, please, please let me know.
P.S. Could someone leave me a comment to be sure it’s working? We made another change since I wrote this!

Fitness Challenge Completed | Las Vegas Boudoir

I did it! I made it through MotivFit’s Body Blast intensive 2 week program! These past 2 weeks have been incredible. This fitness program not only got me into better shape but has made a difference mentally too. I feel less stressed, stronger and more confident!
I faced a few really silly fears throughout the process and let only one get the best of me!
Fear #1:
That I would drop dead. I was so worried I would keel over from a heart attack or something, since I had never really pushed myself like this physically before. I wasn’t sure I could handle it, but I did! I realized during the first class that I would be ok….exhausted and out of breath maybe, but I wasn’t going to literally die.Fear #2:
That I wouldn’t be very good at doing the exercises or that I would be worst in the class. I remembered that this is why I didn’t pursue anything athletic throughout the years…because I couldn’t excel. I always stuck with doing things I was really good at (mostly in the arts - dancing, music, acting, design & photography), and physical fitness just wasn’t something I could ever shine doing. Growing up, I was always the one getting hit in the head in sports that involved things like footballs, soccer balls, etc. And, it still holds true that I’m not great at athletic things, but with the MotivFit crew I felt encouraged anyway. Whitney, on the other hand, was a true star! Wow, what an athlete she turned out to be!Fear #3:
Making a fool out of myself in a group setting. I am quite positive I actually did look pretty ridiculous quite often but didn’t really care once I got there and was concentrating so hard on making it through the exercise routines.Fear #4:
My fear of heights. I didn’t even know I had a fear of heights until a year or two ago (in a glass elevator that was wobbling between floors) but it reared it’s ugly head during one of these classes big time. We were instructed to run up a steep, narrow incline and then trot back down. Well, I pretty much freaked at the top when I started back down and realized I didn’t have good footing and could barely get back down! This was quite embarrassing but nobody made a big deal out of it, thankfully. And the instructors even gave me my own routine (jump squats and sprints) to do at the bottom while everyone did the incline 2 more times.
The best part of it all? I actually see results! During the last weigh-in I was a little disappointed to hear that I had in fact lost NO weight, when others had lost 5-12 pounds. But when Jeff measured my body fat percentage he congratulated me on losing a whole 3%! That’s a lot in a short period of time! My clothes fit better and I really do look more toned!
I can’t say enough good things about Jeff and Carrie (owners of MotivFit). They were sooo kind and encouraging. Aside from being super supportive, they are a lot of fun! They were creative in planning for each days class by giving us a wide variety of things to do so we never grew bored. And, come to find out, we all lived in neighboring towns in Southern CA during high school (Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks & Agoura HIlls)!
I highly recommend MotivFit for everyone! This would be the perfect thing to do if you are one of those gals that wants to tone up in time for your boudoir photography session…or wedding…or just to wear a bikini for summer! I am now a sworn believer and will definitely be taking more of their classes! In the meantime, I am definitely going to continue eating clean and working out at the gym and the trails or park.
Thank you MotivFit for kicking this girl’s butt into better shape!
What are you doing to get into shape for summer?
MotivFit said they would offer my clients a discount, so if you decide to sign up, be sure to mention Haute Shots as a referral!

An Unexpected Testimonial | Las Vegas Boudoir
Looked in my inbox today and found this amazing note and just had to share. Thank you Mrs. ‘H’ for brightening up my busy day!
Stacie,
I don’t know you terribly well but I do know that you have talent. I don’t know where you have come from or how far and hard it was to get where you are at today but I do know that God broke the mold after he made you. Your photography is amazing. AMAZING. I know, you know, you do a good thing by taking those pictures but for the women that hire you, you are doing a great service. Every woman deserves a day with you and pictures like yours. You make women feel beautiful and you showcase their inner beauty and outer beauty. Yes, you have your own genre of style in each photo but you also really capture the inner beauty of the women you photograph. In the pictures that I have seen you can see a spark from each woman that is truly their own.
That’s it. I don’t want to sound like a total wierdo. I just think that every now and then some one should tell you just how fabulous you are.
Aww, can someone hand me a tissue now? I am so blessed to get these sorts of letters and to be surrounded by fabulous women who are just as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside!

Beyond my Comfort Zone | Las Vegas Boudoir
Last week marked the first attempt of the season of trying on a bikini. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. While I am a fairly thin person….the slightest weight gain can be REALLY noticeable on me. And glaring at myself in that bikini, I knew I had to do something! I desperately wanted to tone up.
Going to the gym though has never given me real results. Maybe I just don’t push myself hard enough there. I knew I needed a place where I could be held accountable. So I started searching for boot camp type programs in parks near my home. I was so excited by what I found…BODY BLAST a 2 week program by MotivFit! They weren’t going to be drill sergeants but more encouraging, meaning I stood no chance of leaving in tears, thankfully! I immediately posted something about the class on facebook to see if anyone else would be interested in going, since I am not good about doing things like this alone. Whitney, the hair stylist for Haute Shots (Hera Beauty) piped in saying she would do it and was registering right then. Oh boy, now I did it. I was completely obligated to do it now!
I have NEVER been a very active person. Because I have been thin (enough) most of my life, I have never had to work very hard to stay that way. But, as I get older I notice that I need to get into better shape…tone up, build endurance, etc. Knowing that this Body Blast workout was going to be INTENSE had me completely freaked out. What if I couldn’t do it? Would I be the only fool not able to run far enough, do the correct amount of sit-ups, pushups, and more? Or what if my heart couldn’t handle it? I never really pushed my body like that before! Well, I am happy to say that I pushed through my near panic attack and took the first step and just showed up to the first class!
As soon as I pulled up I felt relieved and encouraged….I can do this! I was so thankful that Whitney was there and was surprised to find a client there as well! Apparently my client had been doing MotivFit classes and personal training sessions as a way of getting into amazing shape after having a baby! So, with a great support system next to me and really encouraging instructors we began our journey of what was the most difficult workout of my life.
And, guess what? I survived! And, while my body is sore, I am doing it again tonight! Woohoo!
Can’t wait to see how I look and feel in 2 weeks. Bikini? - you better be ready for me!
If you are interested in stepping outside of your own comfort zone and getting into shape with these wonderful people, check out MotivFit! They are AWESOME!

Haute Shots & Fashion | Las Vegas Boudoir
Who doesn’t love fashion? Not only is it gorgeous to look at and fun to follow, but it can lift your spirits immensely when you find just the right fit or personal style. Fashion provides all of us with an everyday outlet of expressing ourselves in a way that fits each of us individually. It’s everywhere you look, whether it be classic or wild, you just can’t miss it. And thank goodness for that! Can you imagine if we all wore the same outfits on a daily basis? How boring would that be?
Well, fashion came into play for me in a big way when I created my business. Haute Shots was named with Haute Couture in mind! Haute Couture in French means ‘high dressmaking’. The word ‘Haute’ denotes ‘High’ or ‘Elegant’, while the word ‘Couture’ means ‘Sewing’ or ‘Dress-making’. So, while the dressmaking part didn’t make sense for my business, the word Haute was perfect! Haute Couture is frequently mistaken with ‘high fashion’, but the distinction lies in the custom nature of it and it’s exclusivity. Ready-to-Wear (prêt-à -porter) can be high-fashion but does not qualify as Haute Couture. And, likewise with boudoir photography, what works for one woman might not work with another. So with that in mind, it became my goal with Haute Shots to constantly strive to match the standards of Haute Couture with what I offer in my photography sessions as well as the end products.
Some of the Haute Couture standards I keep in mind as my mission for your experience are:
Customized to each client.
Each session (posing, lighting, retouching techniques, etc) is geared towards each individual. Hera Beauty adheres to these standards as well with your hair & makeup styling.
High quality product.
I strive to offer you the best product possible from everything my vision, designs & photography, to the end product. Always looking for ways to improve upon everything.
Attention to detail.
Your comfort and happiness is of the utmost concern. I scrutinize over every detail of your experience to make it the best it can be for each of you.
Fashionable.
I want your photos to be as fabulous as you are (and NEVER outdated looking), so I am constantly looking for ways to stay fresh with photography as well as keeping an eye on fashion.
How has fashion played a part in your world? Does it play an important part in both your personal and professional lives?

Wednesday Wish List
My wish for this windy Wednesday afternoon is for a little time to do nothing but catch up on some fav blogs such as:
(Click the different images above to lead you to the blogs)
I might just dedicate an hour or so late one night each week to start catching up on things like this. We all need a little down time to recharge…especially creative souls! I find that if I step outside of my boudoir photography business every once in awhile I come back even more inspired.
I have a section set up on Google Reader to look over my favorite blogs whenever I find the time. Have you tried adding your favorite blogs to Google Reader yet? It is by far the best way I have found of keeping up with the websites you want to come back to time and time again.
What are some of your favorite blogs? Please share…I love learning about new sites that are loaded with lots of lovely things to read or look at.
Happy Wednesday!

Wednesday Wish List | Las Vegas Boudoir
Joe and I are in a race to buy a house by summertime. We have been looking and putting offers on homes since last summer/fall and keep getting beaten by investors with cash offers. I am seriously beginning to think that homes aren’t even being sold to real people who want to actually live in them. Neighborhoods in Vegas are rapidly being bought up and turned into rentals only. Not sure what that does to the value of a neighborhood, but surely it couldn’t be good. It definitely doesn’t sit well with us and we are losing hope more each day. Our dream was to have a house with a pool by summer so we could entertain friends & family.
This leads me to my Wednesday Wish List. On it this week, a house by my favorite architect Richard Neutra, a snazzy outdoor seating set from West Elm and a mini-vacation to somewhere beachy. We are considering a short vacay to either San Diego or Newport Beach!
What are you wishing for this week?

Haute Shots Happenings
I’ve been a busy, busy girl lately. Between doing shoots, processing lots of lovely images, fulfilling lots & lots of orders (with so many more to still finish), setting up a new Gallery for proofing & ordering images, to analyzing my marketing & considering new packages to offer…it’s been crazy over here!
I am also organizing an event to celebrate the first anniversary of Haute Shots! And, of course, the AIDS Walk…both in April. Watch for more regular events too. I truly consider all of YOU as part of Haute Shots (it’s not just about the photographer or the photography) and hope to carry these amazing relationships into the future!
I did get to have a little fun this past weekend, finally. Thanks to Fiji Water, Joe and I got to see the band Jet (LOVE them!) perform at Rock & Roll Wine held at the gorgeous pool at Caesar’s Palace! Here’s a silly pic of me with the band (below). We were all supposed to do something ‘ridiculously funny’ for the picture. While I admit, I look absolutely ridiculous (I mean, come on, could I possibly look like more of a dork?), I don’t think any of us were very creative with this at all! Well, Cam (on the left) gave it a good try at least. They put on one heck of a great performance for their show though. So fun!

Charity Walk April 25th | Las Vegas Boudoir
Haute Shots is planning on becoming more involved with the community this year and as part of that will be taking part in charity walks.
The first one is the AIDS Walk on Sunday, April 25, 2010. It is put on annually by AFAN Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) which provides support and advocacy for adults and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in southern Nevada. AFAN works to reduce HIV infection through prevention education to eliminate fear, prejudice and the stigma associated with the disease.
I have done this charity walk before and had such a blast! It’s even better when you go with a large group of people, so let’s all join together and get our walk on! The more, the merrier!
Please sign up on our team page.
And, to show team spirit, I have created fun t-shirts that you can get here. (I am either purchasing the cap sleeve one pictured or the standard sized t-shirt that I can cut up by removing the neckband and arm bands.)

This One’s in the Bag!
Be still my heart. I may have finally found a camera bag worthy of using by Epiphanie Bags! I am just torn between the Ginger (hello? I have a package named Ginger!) and the Lola (RED - it matches my branding better!). Decisions, decisions. I have awhile to figure it out I suppose, as I don’t have any new purchases laid out in the budget as of yet. Bummer.
Which one do you guys like best? The Ginger or the Lola? Please leave me a comment with your answers!

Tying up WPPI and have two Ginger shoots today. I will be back to business as usual tomorrow afternoon. I will be answering all emails and getting back to order fulfillments then. Hope you all are having a fabulous week!
Busy, Busy, Busy with WPPI
Still busy with WPPI activities. So far I attended the Business Institute on Friday and Saturday and loved it. Although, I decided that I chose the wrong class to attend. Since I come from a marketing background, I pretty much knew most everything they were talking about already. But, it was still inspiring and sometimes it takes someone else putting something a different way to turn the lightbulb on. I definitely don’t regret going.
Because we were sitting in the same seat all day, it didn’t really give me the opportunity to network much but I lucked out by having super cool photographers sitting next to me. One was David Esquire from the OC. He is the creator of the “I’m not a McTographer” t-shirt, which I plan on purchasing soon. I also met Michael Corsentino, a lifestyle photographer from Sonoma County, California. Hoping to catch his demo of the new Kubota Dashboard 3.0, but already made plans with Yasmin Tajik of local Shalimar Studios to take part in Becker’s Head Shots.
Another cool part of networking at WPPI is getting to use an application for the iPhone called BUMP. It’s like exchanging digital business cards. You just bump someone else who has the app and it trades your contact info. You can even exchange image files! So fun!
And, if you are a Boudoir Photographer, you are invited to a get-together on Tuesday night that I put together. Please leave a comment or email me at info@hauteshots and I will give you the details.
Anyway, if you are at WPPI and recognize me (that’s me in the pic below), please say hi! I’m really looking forward to meeting you all!

WPPI
Super excited that WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) Convention and Trade Show is finally here again! This year i will be attending the Business Institute (tonight & all day tomorrow), walking around the trade show meeting with vendors and attending the [B] Party which is supposed to be “thee hottest tickets in town each year”, although I really want to go to the Airhorn & Lasers Party Sunday, but I decided to limit myself to just one big party this year. I’m especially looking forward to meeting so many other photographers whose work I admire or with whom I have networked with online! Should be a great opportunity to learn a few new tricks and I’m sure will be lots & lots of fun! I’m going to be plenty busy with this for the next week or so!
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Stay tuned…
So excited about announcing the winner of my Valentine’s Day contest! There are a couple of surprises thrown in too. But we all have to wait until Valentine’s Day to hear who the winner is….boohoo!
Getting ready for a shoot later today and will be back in the office tomorrow afternoon. If you are interested in setting up a photo shoot of your own, please email me from the form that is on my contact page.
Have a happy day everyone and I will be back soon to resume processing images, creating galleries and working on orders! See you soon!

Disturbing Trend in Boudoir
In the past couple of weeks I have been alerted to 2 different cases of image thievery and 4 cases of absolute plagiarism. 2 supposed boudoir photographers were using my images to promote themselves as photographers…not cool. While 4 boudoir photographers felt at liberty to copy my wording exactly and use that as their own to promote their services on their websites. What is going on?
Thankfully, photographers around the globe are becoming familiar enough with my work to know when they see my image where it doesn’t belong to contact me. So, if you are thinking of doing something like this, know that it is only a matter of time before I become aware of it. This is seriously illegal, so don’t be surprised if you hear from my attorney in these matters.
To anyone considering acting in such a fraudulent manner, consider this, you are not only cheating me and your clients but you are cheating yourself. If you can’t create images like this on your own since you have to use mine to display, then how do you suppose you are going to do this for your client who will be expecting their images to turn out like the examples you showed on your portfolio?
Sorry for the rant. I just can’t stomach that there are fake boudoir shooters preying on unsuspecting clients this way. So shady!
Shooting Beauty - Interview for Design Democracy
In my previous life as a Graphic Designer, I was hired by what ended up being the best boss I ever had…Arnold Dela Cruz, an extremely talented Designer and Creative Director. Through him I was able to find my voice as a designer, which I’m sure helped me grow as a photographer too. He knew the power of inspiration for us creatives and he always kept things fresh and regularly encouraged our growth as professionals. Arnold ended up branching off and started one of the coolest sites out there for designers and creatives, called Design Democracy. They are starting a new monthly interview series and kicked it off with an interview of me! I’m incredibly honored!
You can check out the article here. Be sure to look around his site while you’re at it!
